Saturday Rambles - Glenmore

....
After we ate our lunch we decided that wind was just a bit too nasty for walking along the loch, so we drove a short way up the road, past the Reindeer Centre, and went for a walk in Glenmore Forest.

The trees are so big I couldn't get them in one photo. Here's the trees in two sections of trunks...

... and roots.
Looking out through the trees you could see snow on the Cairngorm mountains.
Along the path I noticed these gravestones.
They seem to be pet graves. Probably dogs? They ranged in age from the late 1800s to 1907 and the owners seem to have all been of the Dennistoun family. I'd love to know who they were and why they buried their pets in the middle of a forest.

All I could make out on this one was "Faithful friend of Clare/Blare Dennistoun" and "that strength of feeling great above the human ..."

We walked down to the stream. You can see one of the many cycle/walking tracks going on into the forest. Four years ago we went that way on a circular walk, but I'm just not able to walk that far anymore.
The sound of the water was surprisingly loud.
We had to turn back there as I was out of steam - my joints get all wobbly lately and wobbling up forest paths isn't fun. I still enjoyed every minute of the bit we did walk. It was beautiful and warm in the forest and we saw lots of birds and insects. This area is my most favourite part of Scotland. :-)

  1. Wonderful pictures, Michelle! :o) I do love the pics of your rambles!

I so commiserate on the walking! While I don't have fibro I have developed arthritis in my feet. Yesterday Bud and I spent 3.5 hours walking around a Flea Market in Elkhorn WI. I love that particular Flea Market (came home with 3 Columbine plants to put out front) but I was stumbling and wobbling like I was three-sheets-to-the-wind during the last hour. Whew! I was so glad to get back to the car!

Ditto on the car thing. On the way back I was thinking, "car soon. Car soon." like a mantra. LOL

It's frustrating, isn't it? I wanted to go down that path. There is a HUGE tree down thre. Vast old pine tree I saw last time we walked there 4 years ago, but it was just too far this time.

Three columbine plants? :-) All the same colours or different?

  3. WOW! Even MORE huge trees...amazing! :-D Reminds me of a sad fact that they've been cutting up TOO MANY trees in Indo...ugh...:-(((

Anyway, glad you had a beautiful walk. :-D

It's always sad to see trees cut down. :-(

Yes, it was a beautiful walk. We haven't been there in five years. If we lived closer I think I'd go and walk there every month. :-) But we still do have nice places nearby.

I really need to start walking more. I'm supposed to be doing gentle exercise for the fibro, but most days there just doesn't seem to be time to get away to walk. Will have to make time this summer! ;-)
